Windhoek Renovations Plant Hire takes delivery of the first Liebherr TA 230 in Namibia

In a major milestone, a leading Nambian plant hire and earthmoving equipment company, Windhoek Renovations Plant Hire (WR), has become the recipient of the first ever Liebherr TA 230 articulated dump truck (ADT) in Namibia. The arrival of the unit, which was handed over on April 8, 2026, marks WR’s planned switch to Liebherr’s ADT offering.

A longstanding Liebherr proponent with an existing fleet of about 30 Liebherr machines in its stable, WR has just expanded its fleet with not only the 28-tonne payload TA 230 articulated hauler, but also a 21-tonne Liebherr R 920 Litronic crawler excavator.

The two machines join an extensive fleet of Liebherr machines owned and operated by WR. These include a large fleet of excavators (A 904 C, A 924 C, R 920, R 926 C, R 934 B, R 954 C, R 974 B and R 984 C), wheel loaders (L 550 and L 580) and crawler dozers (PR 744 and PR 764), highlighting WR’s trust in the Liebherr brand and its longstanding relationship with Liebherr-Africa.

Founded in 1985, WR is a proudly Namibian, family-owned company that has established itself as a leading name in the earthmoving and plant hire industry in Namibia. With a national footprint, the company currently owns and operates a fleet of 70 machines, with interests in mining, contracting, road maintenance, demolition and hard rock excavation. Driven by a strong family foundation, WR is led by founder Robert Wirtz and his son, Alex Wirtz, blending experience with a forward-thinking approach to modern plant hire and earthmoving solutions.

Living up to expectations

Following its delivery, the Liebherr TA 230 has been deployed at a gold mine near Karibib, where it is playing a key role in hauling fill material for the construction of a slimes dam. According to Alex Wirtz, Technical Service and Sales Manager at WR, the machine has thus far lived up to its billing.

“WR Plant Hire is proud to already have this machine operating on site, where it has certainly lived up to expectations. The performance, reliability and production output delivered so far have been nothing short of impressive,” he says. “Investing in world-class equipment like the TA 230 is part of our ongoing commitment to offering our clients the highest standards in earthmoving and mining operations across Namibia,” adds Wirtz.

Why Liebherr?

While WR already runs a fleet in excess of 30 Liebherr machines, the decision to introduce the TA 230, says Wirtz, was a natural progression, aligning with the company’s long-term strategy of investing in premium, high-performance equipment. The latest addition strengthens the company’s already diverse and industry-leading fleet, reinforcing its commitment to investing in cutting-edge equipment and delivering top-tier solutions to its clients.

“The introduction of the new-generation ADT allows us to offer enhanced efficiency, reliability, and performance on site, while giving our clients the opportunity to experience and benchmark this machine against other leading brands in the market,” he says.

Support is a key factor

Apart from the premium nature of the Liebherr product that continues to deliver in tough Namibian operating conditions, Wirtz reiterates the importance of aftermarket support from Liebherr-Africa as a key factor in WR’s continued preference of the brand. “The Liebherr Africa team has consistently provided excellent support over the past 30 years. From sales to technical assistance, the level of service we receive makes a real difference. When you operate a fleet of this size, reliability and support are critical – and Liebherr delivers on both,” says Wirtz.

In conclusion, Tendayi Kudumba, General Manager of Earthmoving at Liebherr-Africa, says: “Aftermarket support is critical in plant hire and earthmoving because it directly impacts machine uptime, safety, operational efficiency and long-term asset value.”

“In industries such as mining and plant hire, equipment downtime is out of the question, and OEM support – including genuine parts stockholding and technical support – is key to ensuring that machines operate at peak performance, even under extreme conditions, allowing our clients such as WR to run profitable operations,” concludes Kudumba.
