AAD YOUTH FOUNDATION HOSTS SUCCESSFUL 3-DAY MATHEMATICS SUMMIT EDUCATOR PROGRAMME

The Foundation remains committed to expanding initiatives that develop capacity, promote educational excellence and contribute meaningfully to South Africa’s future talent pipeline.

The AAD Youth Foundation successfully hosted a three-day Mathematics Summit Educator Programme from 19–21 June 2026 at the Eskom Academy of Learning.

The programme brought together 15 Foundation Phase educators from the SediWes District, creating a collaborative platform focused on strengthening mathematics teaching methodologies and improving learner outcomes at the foundational education level.

Designed to equip educators with practical tools, innovative teaching approaches and subject-specific knowledge, the summit created an environment for professional growth, peer learning and the exchange of best practices in mathematics education.

The programme was facilitated by expert practitioners and academics from the South African Military Academy, Vaal University of Technology, and Durban University of Technology, whose combined expertise contributed to a robust and engaging learning experience.

Through interactive sessions, practical demonstrations and collaborative discussions, educators explored strategies aimed at strengthening numeracy competencies and building confidence in mathematics instruction within Foundation Phase classrooms.

Speaking on the initiative, the AAD Youth Foundation Chairperson, Mr Kholisile Khumalo, emphasised the importance of investing in educators as catalysts for long-term educational transformation to make children fall in love again with pure mathematics. Reaffirming AAD’s commitment to advancing STEAM education and empowering learners through meaningful skills development initiatives.

Chief Director from SediWes Region, Mr Buyisile Victor Thetha said, “We had seven objectives that we aimed to achieve through this programme to ensure a stronger understanding of mathematics and improve teaching practices. One of the key focus areas was engaging deeply with curriculum content to improve teaching practices and equip participants to share knowledge and best practices with other educators”.

The Mathematics Summit Educator Programme forms part of the AAD Youth Foundation’s broader mission to create sustainable educational impact by exposing educators to different teaching methodologies that inspire excellence in Science, Technology, Aviation, Engineering and Mathematics (STEAM).

The Foundation remains committed to expanding initiatives that develop capacity, promote educational excellence and contribute meaningfully to South Africa’s future talent pipeline.
