Hillside Gold Project Reaches Key Development Milestone

Kavango Resources has taken a major step towards becoming a gold producer after commencing the commissioning of its newly installed processing plant at the Hillside Gold Project in Zimbabwe. The milestone marks the transition from construction to operational testing and brings the company closer to achieving its first commercial gold production.

Located in western Zimbabwe, the Hillside Gold Project forms part of Kavango’s strategy to establish a scalable gold mining operation while continuing exploration across its broader portfolio of precious and battery metal assets.

Processing Plant Begins Operational Testing

The newly commissioned plant has been designed with an initial processing capacity of 50 tonnes per day, serving as a proof-of-concept facility that will provide valuable operational data before any future expansion.

According to the company, processing activities began in July using stockpiled gold-bearing material together with freshly milled ore sourced from its own mining operations. During the initial commissioning period, the plant achieved encouraging utilisation rates while testing the crushing, milling, gravity recovery and carbon-in-leach (CIL) processing circuits.

Commissioning allows engineers to optimise plant performance, fine-tune recoveries and ensure all processing systems operate efficiently before commercial production commences.

Bill’s Luck Deposit Supports Early Production

A key component of the Hillside development is the Bill’s Luck underground deposit, which hosts a JORC-compliant gold resource expected to underpin the project’s initial mining operations.

As commissioning progresses, Kavango plans to gradually increase the proportion of run-of-mine ore processed through the plant while monitoring recovery performance and plant efficiency. The company has also established an on-site laboratory equipped for metallurgical testing, grade control and exploration support to improve operational decision-making.

Expansion Potential Beyond the Initial Plant

While the 50-tonne-per-day facility represents the first stage of development, Kavango views the operation as a foundation for future growth.

Performance data collected during commissioning will guide decisions on expanding processing capacity, improving recoveries and developing additional mineral resources within the Hillside project area. Successful commissioning would strengthen the project’s commercial viability and support long-term production planning.

Zimbabwe Continues to Attract Gold Investment

Zimbabwe remains one of Africa’s most established gold-producing countries, with continued investment in exploration, mine redevelopment and processing infrastructure helping to unlock previously underdeveloped deposits.

Rising international gold prices have renewed interest in smaller-scale projects capable of being expanded over time, providing opportunities for junior mining companies to advance projects into production while generating early cash flow.

For investors, developments such as the Hillside Gold Project demonstrate how phased mine development can reduce technical risk, validate processing performance and create a platform for future expansion.

Outlook

The commencement of commissioning represents one of the most important milestones in the Hillside Gold Project’s development. As operational testing continues, attention will shift towards achieving first gold production, confirming plant recoveries and evaluating opportunities to increase throughput.

If commissioning proceeds as planned, Kavango Resources will be well positioned to transition from project developer to gold producer, strengthening its presence in Zimbabwe’s growing mining sector while laying the groundwork for future production growth.
