- Strategic gaps laid bare: Delegates highlighted persistent bottlenecks in logistics and infrastructure (including Transnet port delays), fragmented policies hindering AfCFTA implementation, limited access to finance for SMEs, high costs and unclear mechanisms for sustainability transitions, and infrastructure/skills deficits blocking Industry 4.0 and digital transformation.
- AfCFTA and localisation as game-changers: Strong consensus emerged on using the African Continental Free Trade Area to dramatically increase intra-African trade, drive localisation and import substitution in key sectors (automotive, agro-processing, pharmaceuticals, metals and machinery), and build Pan-African value chains.
- Innovation and real-world impact: Exhibitors showcased practical, scalable solutions.
- Call for partnerships: Ministerial addresses, including the keynote by Gauteng MEC for Finance and Economic Development Lebogang Maile, reinforced the urgent need for closer collaboration between government, manufacturers, investors and technology providers to unlock energy security, skills development and sustainable industrial growth.
While the 2025 Indaba successfully mapped the risks and strategic opportunities, it also made one thing clear: Africa now needs concrete execution. The 2026 Manufacturing Indaba (14–15 July 2026, Sandton Convention Centre) will turn those insights into momentum.
