Bidvest International Logistics breaks new ground with pharmaceutical warehouse

This development is part of BIL’s ongoing investment in world-class infrastructure to support South Africa’s healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors.

Johannesburg, South Africa [November 2025]

Bidvest International Logistics (BIL) has officially opened a pharmaceutical warehouse in Johannesburg to meet the country’s growing demand for efficient, compliant, and resilient healthcare distribution.

The facility is SAHPRA-accredited (South African Health Products Regulatory Authority – the national body for safety, quality, and efficacy of health products) and can handle, store, and distribute Schedule 0 to 6 medicines. “The pharmacy features temperature-controlled zones to accommodate a wide range of products. Both our electronic inventory management and temperature monitoring systems are validated to ensure reliability and robustness,” explains Clement Kgatla, Responsible Pharmacist at BIL.

Strategically located within O.R. Tambo International Airport, the BIL warehouse provides easy access to major air and road routes, enabling faster turnaround times and greater operational flexibility.

“As a Customs Degroup Facility, BIL can receive clients’ cargo directly into the warehouse while awaiting customs clearance, reducing delays, lowering the risk of temperature fluctuations, and streamlining logistics,” says Ezelda Botha, General Manager at BIL.

Security is a top priority, reinforced by the facility’s TAPA A rating, the highest certification under the Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) standards. The warehouse can store multiple goods under one roof and consolidate deliveries from a single location, removing the need for multiple service providers,” adds Botha.

This development is part of BIL’s ongoing investment in world-class infrastructure to support South Africa’s healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors.
