Epiroc expands safety and sustainability portfolio through partnership with Jama – scalers and rescue chambers now part of the offering

Epiroc’s Underground division announced a partnership agreement with Jama Mining Machines AB. Through this partnership, Epiroc will be offering a complementary selection of Jama’s state-of-the-art scalers and rescue chambers globally, further enhancing Epiroc’s focus on offering a comprehensive underground portfolio boosting safety, sustainability and productivity.

Through this agreement, Epiroc will be offering the following Jama scalers globally (exceptions: Nordic countries, UK and Ireland): battery-electric SBU 8000 ESBU 8000 C and JMS 7000, and the mobile rescue chamber MRC 2 with a 8-person capacity.

“This partnership is a natural step in our commitment to providing the most complete and innovative solutions for underground mining. Jama’s expertise in scaling and their strong track record of customer-focused innovation make these solutions an ideal complement to our offering.” Rickard Johansson, VP Marketing with Epiroc’s Underground division.

Swedish-founded Jama has over 70 years of experience in developing high-performance machines for the mining and tunneling industries. Well known for their high safety standards, robustness, operator comfort and low operating costs, Jama is recognized as a strong leader with dedicated mechanized scaling equipment, including battery-electric models, in the Nordic market. Introduced in 2020, the Jama battery-electric scaler SBU 8000E was the world’s first fully electric battery-powered scaling machine and comes equipped with a battery solution that has been developed in collaboration with Epiroc.

In the drill and blast cycle, it is common to see a Jama scaler working ahead of Epiroc’s rock bolting rigs. This partnership agreement will mean that the same relationship and customer benefits can be extended on a global scale through Epiroc’s customer centers. Aftermarket support will be provided by Epiroc’s customer centers, with technical backup from Jama’s experienced team in Sweden.

Epiroc and Jama’s collaboration point at many successful initiatives, for example in 2020, Jama launched the world’s first battery-powered underground scaler, using Epiroc’s battery technology.
